If you read my previous blog post, you’ve already been introduced to the two furry loves of my life, Scout & Dixie. If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to make fresh, healthy dog food – keep reading for my EASY recipe and the kitchen tool that made it all happen!

Here’s the skinny on the benefits that we saw with our dogs within the first week:

  • stools improved
  • they weren’t gassy
  • they stopped eating so much grass
  • their breath started to smell better
  • their coats were shinier
  • they had more energy
  • our relationship improved <3

Disclaimer: The recipe is what I’ve discovered through my own personal research, verifying with my veterinarian that it was safe & effective, while also confirming correct portions per day for each dog based on body weight. I encourage you to check with your veterinarian to ensure it’s a good fit for your pups first :).

Instant Pot Dog Food Recipe (Turkey & Beef Liver)

You Will Need:

  • 3 lb sweet potatoes
  • 1 lb carrots
  • 1 (15 oz) can pumpkin puree
  • 3 tablespoons ground turmeric
  • 1 1/2 cups brown rice
  • 1 (10 oz) bag of fresh spinach
  • 1 (12 oz) bag frozen sweet peas
  • 1 (12 oz) bag frozen green beans
  • 2 tablespoons sunflower oil
  • 7 lbs ground turkey
  • 1 package beef liver
  • Water

Directions:

  1. Wash carrots and sweet potatoes, then rough chop them.
  2. Add carrots & sweet potatoes to Instant Pot. Pour in 2 cups of water.
  3. Close the lid, set to sealing position, and Pressure Cook for 20 mins. Manually release.
  4. Remove carrots and sweet potatoes to a large bowl – save leftover liquids in Instant Pot for use in step 6.
  5. In a large bowl, mash the carrots and sweet potatoes until it’s a mashed potatoes consistency. Add the pumpkin puree and turmeric, mix well, and set aside.
  6. Add brown rice, spinach, peas, and green beans to the Instant Pot. Fill with water just until it barely covers everything. Close the lid, set to sealing position, pressure cook for 20 mins. Manually release.
  7. Pour the brown rice mixture into the mixing bowl with the carrots & potatoes and combine well.
  8. Add 2 tablespoons of sunflower oil to the Instant Pot..
  9. Add the 7 lbs of ground turkey, breaking up the meat so it can cook evenly. Use a kitchen knife or kitchen shears to chop the beef liver into bite sizes pieces and add to the pot. Close the lid, set to sealing position. Pressure cook for 20 mins. Manually release.
  10. Drain off excess grease. Once drained, add meat to your large mixing bowl with the other ingredients. Stir and combine well.
  11. Store in airtight containers, or ziplocs, and place in refrigerator. You can also freeze this recipe as needed.
  12. Serve to dogs at dinnertime & watch them enjoy!
